Topsoil is dug from the first five or six inches below grass and has all of the nutrients plants require to flourish and survive. By adding topsoil to your property, you can encourage your flowers to bloom more beautifully, your lawn to look its lushest, and many other outdoor improvements!

As the name implies, fill dirt is best used in areas that need to be built up, especially for construction purposes. Unlike topsoil, fill dirt typically does not have any nutrients or organic matter in it, making it a poor choice for landscaping.

It’s always a smart idea to spread mulch on top of it. Mulch acts as a protective cover for your garden; it suppresses weeds, retains moisture in the soil, and keeps the soil cool – even on the hottest day of the year.
